He removed with his parents to Allen Co., in 1843, settling near Westminister on a farm which he helped his father clear up and improve. He married Jemima STALEY in 1850 and for some years lived on the Staley farm near Lafayette. In 1853 he purchased the farm on which he lived the balance of his life, 4 1/2 miles northeast of Lafayette.Mr. BOYD was one of the pioneers of this section of Allen County, clearing up his farm which was all wood when he purchased it.Mr. BOYD was the father of five children, four of survive him: Robert, Saint,, Mrs. J.W. CLUM and Mrs. Harney SHAW, the latter three living in or near Ada, which with his wife, are left to mourn their loss. He was the son of Robert BOYD, who died some years ago in his 96th year.He leaves one brother and four sisters, 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. BOYD was an honest and industrious man who was honored and respected by all who knew him, during his residence of over a half century in Jackson township has held various positions of honor and trust in it. Mr. BOYD had been suffering with Bright's disease for several years but seemed of late to be getting better, death came to him very suddenly on Sunday morning while sitting in his chair, January 19,1902; aged 76 years, 9 mo, and 10 days. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Christopher of Ada, and interment at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, three miles northeast of Lafayette. a very large congregation of friends and acquaintances from Allen and Hardin counties paying their last respects.
