ALFRED G. COLLINS YIELDS TO DEATH Veteran Newspaper Man and ex-Confederate Soldier, Meets Last Foe The death of Captain Alfred G. Collins, 67 years old, residing at 207 West Spring street, occurred this forenoon. While for the past few weeks that he was confined to his bed. Death was due to dysentery, aided by complications. He was born in Greenville, S. C., July 16, 1849. He served the southern army, where he was given the commission of captain. Practically his entire life he has been in newspaper business, in one way or another. He was a versatile writer and served any cause he espoused well. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Greenville, S. C., and the Episcopal church. Two years ago he was married to Miss Bell Slusser, formerly of Columbus Grove, but who resided on West Spring street, after her coming to this city. He was known about the city as Colonel Collins and was a popular and unique gentleman. He spent some months in newspaper work on the Lima Daily News and at the present time was engaged in special work. This work he was compelled to suspend because of ill health. No arrangements have been made for the funeral which will probably depend upon the arrival of the Rev. Arthur M. Griffin, the rector of Christ church, Episcopal, from Mackinac Island.
