LONGSWORTH, a prominent Lima attorney and former mayor, died February 3rd following an automobile crash the day before. After a thorough investigation of the accident, police said they believed the collision to have been unavoidable because of weather conditions. WILLIAM B. CARR, of Jackson- st, driver of the other machine told police that visibility was poor because of falling rain and sleet. LONGSWORTH died at St, Rita’s Hospital from a fractured skull, never having regained consciousness. LONGSWORTH had been a resident of Lima since 1878. He was born at Van Wert, Oct. 2, 1859, and was a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. WILLIAM N. LONGSWORTH. He was prepared by a tutor for the junior year at Wooster college when in 1878 he located at Lima and became manager of his father’s manufacturing plant which was engaged in the manufacture of handles for farming implements. Although LONGSWORTH deemed it expedient at the time to give up his collegiate course, it did not prevent his studying for the bar to which he was admitted in 1889. He then opened an office in Lima. In 1890, he was elected mayor of Lima, serving two years. Surviving relatives are the widow, ESTHER LONGSWORTH; one son, WALTER I. LONGSWORTH, of Indianapolis; two daughters, Mrs. JOHN BREESE and Mrs. MORRIS H. SMITH, both of Lima; three brothers, S. N. LONGSWORTH, of Ft. Wayne, REESE LONGSWORTH, of Pamplin, Va.; and two sisters, Mrs. PETTY M. EDSON, of Miami, Fla., and Mrs. D. W. LONG, of Convoy. Burial will be in Woodlawn.
