Died March 27, 1902, at his late residence at Vaughnsville, aged 35 years, 4 months, and 5 days. He was married to Nettie E. Slusser, Feb 28, 1889. To this union was born three children, Irene, Oran, and little Cora. He leaves a loving wife, three children, father, stepmother, on brother, four half brothers, one sister, three half sisters and many relatives and friends. His mother, one sister, and one brother proceeded him to the spirit world. He united with the Christian church in Cairo 1888, and on March 5, 1890, he united with the Vaughnsville Christian church by letter, under the pastorate of Rev. H.H. Holverstolt, and was baptized in 1893 by Rev. A. Noffsinger. He was a faithful member of the Knights of Pythias, No 711, of Vaughnsville, Ohio. The funeral sermon was preached at the Vaughnsville Christian church, Saturday at 2 p.m. after which the remains were taken to the Vaughnsville cemetery, where the Knights of Pythias took charge of the service and buried him in the honors of said order. Rev. G. W. Foltz, Britton, Mich. Bro. Foltz used a part of the eleventh verse of the first chapter of Joshua as a text, "Prepare your victuals , for in three days you shall pass over this Jordan." The theme seemed to be , "The necessity of preparing to cross the river of death." He preached a brief but commendable sermon . Bother Mell was a well known, good man, and had many relatives, hence a multitude was at his funeral to pay a tribute of respect. The bereaved family have the sympathy and prayers of many.
