(Pittsburgh, Pa.) January 06, 1864 Died at the residence of his father, Rev. James Smith, in Maysville, Ohio, Dec. 4th, 1863, Capt. J. Dereuelle Smith, representative elect to the Legislature of Ohio from Union County, in the 28th year of his age. Capt. Smith was a young man of more than ordinary promise and he only son of a devoted Presbyterian minister... At the beginning of the war he was in feeble health, yet he resigned a civil office to enter the army, where at once he was elected Lieutenant, and afterwards was promoted to the captaincy of the first Company that went from Union County to the army.
