He was born in Shelby county, Ohio, on February 23rd, 1821, and died November 12th, 1881. In 1845 he was married to Miss Mary Jane Williams, at Richwood, Ohio, and they resided in Logansville, until the spring 1851, when they removed to this place. They have had six children, two of whom have preceded their father in death. He engaged in store keeping when he first came here. Along in the 60’s he disposed of his store and engaged in banking, going in with B. C. Faurot, and the late Mr. Hackedorn, organizing a bank under the name of “The National Bank,” now the Allen County Bank. He retired from this bank and went to Wapakoneta and established a bank there, of which he was cashier. After passing several years there he returned here and helped organize the First National Bank. After retiring from that position he accepted the position of Deputy Auditor under S. D. Chambers, which position he filled until taken with his final illness. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, from the Trinity M. E. Church, by the Knights Templar, of which order he was a bright member. The grave is in Woodlawn Cemetery.
