Part of his letter was the following story: " I know of one grave that does not appear in these records. I presume it was not marked at the time they were taken off (copied). It was the grave of "Wash" (Washington) Richardson. His was the first funeral I ever attended, and the profound impression it left upon me was never dimmed in the least. I remember looking into his coffin and seeing large copper coins (the old-time large penny) placed on his eyes to hold them shut. I wonder if young children should not be shared such experiences. "Wash" was the only neigbor between our house and the Lima-Erie Railway. After his death the place was occupied by his son Bill for many years. As nearly as I can remember , Wash died about 1875. I hope a suitable stone now marks his grave." ****** George Washington Richardson died the 30th day of January 1879 in Spencerville, Allen County, Ohio. Was buried In the Old Hartfort Cemetery.********
