Forsyth; lieutenant-colonel, Isaac Gass; major. John Williams; quartermaster, Lorenzo D. Myers; surgeon, H. O. Mack; chaplain, Alex. R. Brown. Company E was recruited in Mansfield, and received many volunteers from Ashland county. The Sixty-Fourth left Camp Buckingham at midnight, December 16-17, 1861, armed with Springfield rifles, moved by rail to Cincinnati, thence by steamer to Louisville, Kentucky, and partook of hardtack for the first time on Christmas Day. We have followed its services on the field in preceding pages. From March 11, 1863, until killed at Rocky Face Ridge May 9, 1864. its colonel was Alexander McIlvaine. It mustered out under command of Lieutenant-Colonel Wolff. Of the 900 men who originally belonged to the regiment. 444 were returned killed, wounded or missing before the close of the war. Its battles included Stone River, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Rocky Face Ridge, Resaca, Adairsville, Dallas, Ivenesaw Mountain. Peachtree Creek, Atlanta, Jonesboro, Lovejoy Station.
