That day he had been working at usual his task as inspector of brick on Claremont avenue, and in the evening was going home, when he stopped at his son's. He went out to the tile yard near the house, when the death summons came without warning, and called away one of the best known citizens of Ashland. Excepting a sudden prostrataion with heart desease six years ago, he has always been in generally good health and has done considerable work this past summer and fall. Mr. Sheppard has an interesting history. He was born in London, England in 1822, being 72 years and 8 days old on Monday. He came to this country when 30 years old. He engaged in brick manufacturing, and many are the buildings in this town for which he furnished the material. He was an honest, hardworking citizen, and respected by all who knew him. He was familiarly know as "Jack", and many thus addressed him Monday, little thinking that at 5:30 that evening he would be no more. His wife aged 69 years, and sons, Fred of Marion; Edward of Lorain; Benjamin, of Ashland; Richard, of Findlay; William and Charles, of Ashland, survive him. The fifth son, Albert, died Nov. 13, 1893. The funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from his late residence on Cleveland avenue.
