Catherine Ruffcorn's headstone, removed from her grave and placed against a 
tree to make way for a horse pasture sometime in the late 19th or early 20th 
century.

Cemetery notes and/or description:
The Beacon Hill Cemetery was so named because it is at a slightly higher 
elevation than the surrounding area. The cemetery was last "read" in the 1930s 
by the DAR and then again in the 1980s or 90s. It contains 11 to 15 graves of 
the William & Catharine Ruffcorn and Phillip & Margaret (Ruffcorn) Glessner 
families, whose property was adjacent to this location.

This Ruffcorn/Glessner cemetery is not demarcated and gravestones are not in 
place although at least 8 or 9 remain stacked on the property against trees 
(2011). At some time in the late 1800s or early 1900s, a property owner pulled 
up the headstones and stacked them against a fence or trees to use the land as 
a horse pasture. Presently a road runs diagonally through part of the property 
(NE-SW).

Beacon Hill Cemetery is located about 1/4 mile behind the New Liberty Church 
(419-869-0106), at 425 US Highway 42, about 1500 feet east of the junction of 
US 42 with state route 89 on the south side of the highway. This is on the 
Jackson Township and Perry Township line in Ashland County (access on the 
south side of SR 42 between SR 302 and SR 89). The area around the cemetery 
now has on it a house and a small church.
