He was the son of Schuyler Blaine and Mabel Clara (Noland) Noxon. He attend OSU and was a milk tester for a time. He was the herdsman for R.E. Dillon at the time Dillon's Lindale Bonnie Pauline became a world's champion cow. He was later associated with his father in farming but worked in steel mills in the off seasons. While farming on shares with his father in early 1920's, he bought the adjoining Pettit farm and brought his bride, Grace Geraldine Warner, to that farm. After a three month illness, Grace died 25 July, 1925, at her mother's home near North Lima. On 1 June, 1929, he was married to Alathea Ann Tinker in Mentor, Ohio, by her great-uncle. She was the daughter of Alvin and Ella Frances (Flagg) Tinker and was born in Rome on her father's farm 21 September, 1896. She graduated from Grand River Institute in 1916, from Ashtabula County Normal School in 1917. She was teaching in a one room school on Route 46 when her mother died 12 December, 1917. The family went after her in a horse and buggy on mud roads so she could attend the funeral. She taught in Willoughby for several years and later refused offers of teaching because of her health. In 1947 the first house on the farm was torn down and the chestnut lumber from it and lumber from the farm woods was used to build a new house the following year on the same site. The family moved to their new home on New Year's Day, 1949. Alathea was not to enjoy her new home very long as she passed away 21 March, 1952. The couple raised two children. Evelyn Ann was born 26 April, 1930, and married James Daniel Mathews of Kinsman, and Harlan Lloyd Noxon, born 28 April, 1933. Evelyn passed away 24 April, 1974, and was buried on her 44th birthday, leaving two children, Harold James and Amy Jean Mathews. Harlan will be the subject of another biography in this book. On 3 June, 1958, Harold married a widow, Mrs. Laura McCloskey. She died 27 May, 1980, and Harold followed her in death 16 December, 1983, 146 years after the purchase of the family farm by the first Noxon. Harold was an avid hunter and exceedingly fond of the out-of-doors. He belonged to the old Ohio Protective Association which later formed the Wayne Volunteer Fire Department and served as a fire chief at one time. He was a township trustee, a Wayne School Board member, and was very active in trying to keep our school in Wayne. He was a Republican Committeeman for some time and a member of Gustavus Lodge F and AM. -----Harlan L. Noxon ==== Maggie_Ohio Mailing List ====
