Harris died last Sunday morning at half past three o'clock at his home on Eagle Street. Kidney trouble and heart failure were the causes of his death. Mr. Harris was born in Chesterfield, New Hampshire, December 22, 1818 moving to Vermont with his father's family in his early boyhood. When 18 years of age he came with his father to Ohio, making the journey with horse and wagon, consuming six weeks time. He was married to Lois L. Hemenway, of Madison, in November 1847 (sic) and the couple celebrated their golden wedding five years ago this coming November. Mr. Harris has lived at his Eagle Street home for the past 26 years and for the past 20 years has been a member of the Congregational Church. He belonged to one order, The Royal Temple of Temperance. Mr. Harris followed the trade of carpentry, having been engaged in the construction of the break- waters at several Lake Erie points, shipbuilding, and in his later years house carpentry. He was one of the early ship carpenters that were employed at the Madison dock. Mr. Harris would have attained his 82nd birthday this December. He leaves a wife and two sons, Messrs, Stanley and Albert Harris to mourn his decease. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon at 1:30 standard time at his late home, his pastor Rev. R.S. Lindsay delivering the sermon. a quartette composed of Messrs. Henry Means and Charles Peck, Mmes. Hattie Clark and A. M. Ford rendered very beautiful and appropriate selections. His burial took place on the family lot in the old cemetery. Additional Comments: They were married in 1845.
