There is an outline of a C and enough to determine that this was Capt Simon Sr. His son, Simon Jr, was only a Leutenant. The back (east) third of the cemetery is nearly all members of the Fobes family. His stone is near the middle (north-south) several rows from the back. Additional Comments: Simon Sr was NOT in the Revolutionary War as the flag holder indicates, but was in the French and Indian War. Simon Sr was the second settler to die in Wayne Twp, (of a broken heart) 3 or 4 days after his wife of 60 years (Thankful Ellis) was the first to die. She is supposed to be buried beside him, but there is no stone to be found. Their grandson, Joshua Fobes, is credited as the first settler of Wayne Twp. They are my 5x great grandparents.
