It was typed exactly as it appeared in the letters so there is little punctuation and many misspellings. The first couple of letters were written by my great great grandfather, John Quincy BOUDINOT to his wife, Levina Adaline TINKER during the Civil War. John and Levina lived in Belle Rive, Illinois but were both born in Athens County, OH and migrated to Illinois shortly after they married. Apparently Levina's entire family--the Tinkers--remained in Ohio, and from all the names in the letters I gather they were a large family. I still have not been able to "straighten out" all the Tinkers but am working on that. Hope this info can be of some help to others. *********************************************************************** (Underlined text to indicate illegible writing or unable to read what was written) ((Bold text to highlight references to Tinker)) Letter from Charley Tinker to John Boudinot, dated March 4th 1875 Athens Trimble Ohio March 4th 1875 Dear John and children we are all well excet wats boy he is not well but not dangerous hope this may find you all well I received florance leter stating that bradshaw wanted a receipt from me for the interest I wil inclose one and want you to collect the money and send ito me as quick as you can as I want to lay it out on that Dear beloeved ones graive to corispond with the way we laid him in his last resting place also want to fix all my afairs up rite off florance spoke of mater between me and you I don't want you to sacryfyse or cause your self uneasiness but when you can and not hurt your self I wish you wold as I don't know what I shall do now John in regards to them things of elizabeths that were left with you before she Dyed she wanted your children to have them keepo them for her sake in Regard to that dirty woodworth familly that have got nothing ____ with all thare to defraud and steal others property ___ Sam how the things was got old Sam in to a swindle if I ___ have none when old Sam was ____ he wold not got off without his and ____ Rascality being shown up we are ____ to ____ thare vile ___ ___ at any time _____ is now a by word in community in one year from this time or aint now worth one dollar or ten dollars to where he cant pay ___ I wil rite all particulars to you soon don't feel able to do so now as I am hart stricken at this verry moment I will get matters to rite some more remaining as evern Charley Tinker
