It was typed exactly as it appeared in the letters so there is little punctuation and many misspellings. The first couple of letters were written by my great great grandfather, John Quincy BOUDINOT to his wife, Levina Adaline TINKER during the Civil War. John and Levina lived in Belle Rive, Illinois but were both born in Athens County, OH and migrated to Illinois shortly after they married. Apparently Levina's entire family--the Tinkers--remained in Ohio, and from all the names in the letters I gather they were a large family. I still have not been able to "straighten out" all the Tinkers but am working on that. Hope this info can be of some help to others. *********************************************************************** (Underlined text to indicate illegible writing or unable to read what was written) ((Bold text to highlight references to Tinker)) Letter to Effa from R. W. Tinker, Jr. Colorado Springs, Colorado March 26, 1894 Mrs. Effa Parkes Stonington, Colo. Dear Cousin, I received your most welcome letter a few moments ago and will try to answer the same. I am glad you are all well. I am feeling much better than usual. Well I am very sorry you are getting discouraged. I think you had better go back to old Ohio. I don't think you will get discouraged there. Well I will go to see both Nellie and Nettie a soon as I get back to Ohio. I will give your love to them. Well I hope you will have good crops this year. Well, of course you know best about the goods but it looks like it might be a good thing if you could get the trade but that might be a hard thing to do of course if the people all have there it would not be of any use to put in a stock of goods. How is Charles doing has he as big a trade as ever I suppose he as slow as ever and don't keep his goods in any better shape does he. No Mr. Spicer has never written me but once & that was long before I got your other letter. No, he has not sent it yet. Tell Clark I sent the Fireman just to amuse him I thought it would tickle him when he read it. How is the other children getting along. Has Fred anything to say about me since I left I suppose he has got over thinking I was so bad has he not Well I & one of the old Sunday brokers will go up to Denver in the morning it is Mr. Vernon of Gloucester, Ohio I used to know him before we moved to Ross Co. They are having lots of trouble at Cripple Creek, Colo. Well there is nothing more to write wo I will close. Write as soon as you get this. As ever your coz. R. W.
