Mr. Everett enjoyed excellent health his life through and was only seriously ill the past few months. He was united in marriage to Sarah Emma Matteson in January 1899. From this union were born six children, two of which died in infancy. He is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter as follows: Sidney V. of Oakland, California; Fred William of Columbus, Ohio, Harry Virgil of Athens, Ohio and Mrs. John Sands of Indianapolis, Indiana. There are also 8 grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nephews and nieces and a host of friends. The history of the Everett family parallels that of many eastern families who pioneered westward in the early 1800s. Henry's grandfather, Eli Everett (Everitt), who was the first person to be buried in the McDougall Cemetery, was in his early years a policeman in New York City. In 1817, Eli moved with his family to Amesville, Ohio and in 1822 bought from a trader the land which was to become the homestead of several following generations of Everetts. It was this pioneer who cut the trail from what is now Route 50 north to the sight of the log cabin on the Peach Ridge Road where Henry was born. His grand-uncle, Moses Everett (Everitt), was a graduate of Harvard and taught the second school in Ames Township. Henry was a life-long farmer and loved his vocation more than any other. He managed his farm with pride and industry. He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor, and enjoyed a wide circle of friends who will miss his presence among them.
