Charlotte Howard Holland provided the scanned copy of the original newspaper 
obit.  The date of April 24, 1973 was hand written on the top, there was no

April 24, 1973, Leroy W. Mayles:

Millfield - Leroy W. Mayles, 81, of Millfield, Route 1 died Tuesday in O'Bleness 
Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  Born in Morgan County, he was a son of 
the late Alexander and Henrietta Davis Mayles.  He was a retired farmer.  Survivors 
include 10 daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Nellie) Phillips and Mrs. Allen (Phyllis) 
Bennett, both of Millfield Route 1;  Mrs. John (Charlotte) Smathers and Mrs. John 
(Betty) Dunfee: both of Athens, Route 3; Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Weekley, Millfield; 
Mrs. Opal Eismond, Newark; Mrs. Jack (Josephine) Gleason, Powhatan Point; Mrs. 
Raymond (Ruth) Davenport, Millfield; Mrs. Bernice Thompson, Chauncey, Mrs. Stephen 
(Maxine) Hamilton, Nevada; s son Delbert, Millfield; a stepson, Martin Keirns, 
Athens Route 4; a brother, Kirby Mayles, Chauncey; 54 grandchildren and 69 great 
grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Delta in 1965, a son Deward, 
two sisters, Alice and Iva, five brothers, John, Pearl, Archie, Samuel and Harrison.  
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Jagers and Sons Funeral Home with the 
Rev. Glenn Collins officiating.  Burial will be in the Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.  
Friends may call at the funeral home after Thursday noon.
