She was born April 23, 1909, in Dutchman Community, McFarlan, Ritchie County, W. Va. to Albert Gilbert and Carrie Alma Ryan Roberts. She was a member of Little Hocking Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William Joseph; two sons, Robert J. of Reedsville and Willard R. of Dresden; three daughters, Mrs Billy L. (Evajean) McKnight of Coolville, Mrs David L. (Betty) Ross of Middleport and Mrs Wayne (Christine) Lyons of Torch; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs Lester (Myrtle) Chadock and Mrs Frank (Juanita) Hupp, both of McFarlan W.Va. and Ora Roberts of Alliance. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Ira, Perry, Homer, and Donald; and three sisters, Velda "Toot" Strickland, Belle McRoberts and an infant sister. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Little Hocking Church of Christ with Roger A. Bush and Stephan Fuchs officiating. Burial will be in Coolville Cemetery. Friends may call at Whites Funeral Home in Coolville from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church one hour prior to services on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund of Little Hocking Church of Christ, Little Hocking, Ohio 45742 WILLIAM JOSEPH FORTNEY TORCH— William Joseph Fortney, 84, of Torch died Thursday (March 5, 1992) at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Fortney began working as an oiler for the Southern Oil Co. Gasoline Plant at Dutchman, WV, in 1927. In 1931, he worked for the West Virginia State Road Commission. After that, he worked as an oil field tool dresser, driller, and roustabout in Washington, Meigs, and Coshocton counties in Ohio and Ritchie and Wirt counties in West Virginia. In 1942, he worked at the Republic Steel Corp. in Massillon. He retired from Columbia Gas on Oct. 1, 1969. He was a member of Little Hocking Church of Christ at Little Hocking. He was born in Washington, Pa, to Ross Bennett and Bessie Goodnight Fortney. His family later moved to Calhoun County, W. Va. Mr. Fortney is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Billy J. (Evajean) McKnight of Coolville, Mrs. David L. (Betty) Ross of Middleport and Mrs. Wayne ( Christine) Lyons of Torch; two sons, Robert J. of Reedsville and Willard L. of Dresden; three brothers, Charlie of Marietta, Woodrow of Long Bottom and Jack of Warsaw; three sisters, Mrs. Gail (Geraldine) Hart of Perrysville and Mrs. Fred (Kathleen) Morriston and Mrs. Carl (Louise) Perkins, both of St. Marys, W. VA.; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Delphia Mae Roberts Fortney; one brother, Tracy E. Fortney; one sister, Mrs. Perry (Gladys) Roberts; and an infant sister, Mildred Beatrice Fortney. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Little Hocking Church of Christ of Little Hocking with evangelists Roger A. Rush and Steven Fuchs officiating. Burial will be in Coolville Cemetery. Friends may call at White-Blower Funeral Home in Coolville after 5 p.m. Saturday and at the church for one hour prior to the services.
