His parents were Henry G. Elshoff and Evelyn (Cullmeyer or Callmeyer). John Harmon was 34 years old when he arrived in the United States on June 28, 1841 with his wife Elizabeth (Fenneman) and a 4 year old daughter Elizabeth and a servant named Hemmer. Believe he arrived through the Port of Baltimore. He is located in the Dubois County, Indiana 1860 census as being 52 years old and his name was listed as Henry Elshoff. His wife Elizabeth was confirmed in Hanover, Germany in 1830 per information in her Confirmation Bible and was the youngest of 9 children. This couple had six children according to the 1860 census: Elizabeth, Louisa, Christina, William H., Henry, Ann. This couple is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Huntingburg, Dubois County , Indiana.
