CRATTY was born in Washington county, Pa., 4 Jan 1837. He went to common schools and the Washington Academy, Guernsey county., Ohio. He learned the trade of a tanner in his native county. He taught school for three years. He then was in the mercantile trade until 1870, at which time he became involved in the general insurance business. He has represented the following companies: Northwestern Life, Milwaukee; Travelers' Accident, Philadelphia; Springfield, of Massachusetts; Fireman's Fund, of California; Mercantile, of Cleveland; North British and Mercantile, of Great Britain; Merchants, of New Jersey.
