A.D. 1863 , personally appeared before me Jacob Bunkle Clerk of the Circuit Court for the county of and State aforsaid (it being a Court of Record) Mrs. Susannah Brown a resident of Martins Ferry in the County of Belmont and the State of Ohio, aged 42 years, who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the Act of Congress, approved July 14, 1862: That she is the widow of Henry Brown who was a Corporal in Company A Commanded by Capt. Shangler in the 43rd Regiment of Ohio Vol. Inf. in the War of 1861, who died at Corrinth, Mississippi on the 7th day of October 1862. She further declares that she was married to the said Henry Brown on the 18th day of April in the year 1844, that her husband , the foresaid Henry Brown died on the day mentioned and that she has remained a widow ever since that period, as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed. She also declares that she has not in any manner been engaged in, or aided or abetted the rebellion in the United States and that by said husband she had the following children, Florence born 3 July, 1848 George born 1 Aug. 1850 Alice born 20 Oct, 1854 Velma born 30 Nov, 1859 Margaret born 23 April 1860, that her maiden name was Susannah Talbot and that remained endure of her marriage to(unreadable) and that her P.O Address is Martins Ferry Ohio and further declares that she appoints S. P. Hildreth of Wheeling, VA., he Attorney, to prosecute this claim, and authorizes him to receive and receipt for a draft payable to her order, for whatever sum may be allowed on the same. Witness: signed George Brown signed: Susannah Brown signed Amanda Johnston Also personally appeared George Brown and Amanda F Johnston residents of Martins Ferry in the County of Belmont, State of Ohio persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit, and who being by me duly sworn, say that they were present, and saw Mrs Susannah Brown sign her name to the forgoing declaration; and they further swear that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of the applicant, and their acquintence with her that she is the identical person she represents herself to be and that they have no interest in the presecution of this claim Applicant's P.O. Address Martins Ferry Ohio Sworn to and subscribed before me this 18th day of November A.D., 1863, and I hereby certify that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim.
