The deceased was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and died in the full triumph of faith, as was expressed by him frequently during his sickness. He belonged to the 48th Regiment of O.V. company B. Sad Death. – A son of Michael Umbenhour, of Loydsville, met a sad death on Monday evening. The particulars, as near as we can gather them, are as follows: He was out gunning in the evening, and did not return. His parents got uneasy about him, and made search, but were unable to find him, and were compelled to give up the search. He had taken a little dog with him, and about 3 o’clock in the morning the dog returned to the house. The whining of the dog awoke Mr. Umbenhour, and he got up. The dog immediately started off, so fast that Mr. Umbenhour had to call him back once or twice. He followed the dog to the woods, about a quarter of a mile from his house, near the National Road, where he found his son dead. He was shot through the bowels. It is supposed he was in the act of crossing a run, near which he was lying, and was accidentally shot. A coroner’s inquest was held by Esq. Mitchener. We have not learned the verdict.
