Hess Jacob W. Hess, 72, Stone Creek Route 1, retired farmer, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday at his home, after a long illness. Death resulted from a heart attack. He was born April 26, 1897, in Belmont County, a son of Walter and Mary Hanson and was married the first time to Lillie Haines, who died in 1920. He second wife, Ethel Mumma, died in 1945, and he was married a third time to Nora Snellenberger, who survives. Mr. Hess was a member of the Evans Creek Salem Lutheran Church. Besides the wife, survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Betty) Fritter, Piedmont; one son, Floyd Hess, Albuquerque, N. Mex.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Michael (Betty) Mizer and Mrs. Russell (Gladys) Mizer, both of Stone Creek Route 1; five sisters, Mrs. Ethel Schilling, Grants, N. Mex., Mrs. Roy (Lulu) Gordon, Mrs. Emerson (Freda) Williams and Mrs. George (Thelma) Stahl, Strasburg, and Mrs. Earl (Mary E.) Bowers, New Philadelphia; one brother, Gilbert Hess, Dover Route 2; five grandchildren and two sep-great- grandchildren. One son, one sister and four brothers are deceased. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Evans Creek Salem Lutheran Church in charge of Rev. Lester E. Slagle. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.
