Section 26, Lemon Township, Butler County Ohio *Dates are based on tombstone information and then the 1960's inventory by Hazel Stroup. Copy of Hazel Stroup's survey only goes to the beginning of "Shafor" 2nd Source found 1987- Cummins Room, Lane Library, Hamilton, Ohio. June 2005 update based on Carolyn Lacey info from mailing list [OHBUTLER-L]@Rootsweb.com on 5/30/2005 - note that not all data used due to tombstone interpretation. Names without links- the tombstones have not been found. Some stones are down. "Birth year" deduced by simple subtraction. Things that are not on the tombstones are in ()s. From: Carolyn Lacey In 1827 Amanda was laid out by Samuel DICKEY and Robert CODDINGTON along the Miami Canal (present day Verity Parkway) The town was named for Samuel's mother Amanda. Adam DICKEY with the help of his son Samuel contructed a gristmill on the Miami River near Amanda. The flour mill was probably the big employer until the paper mills Crystal and Excello came to the area. Samuel DICKEY retired in the 1870's and transferred to his son Adam. In the 1880's the flour mill was sold to Archibald Jewell and with John Shafor the mill was converted to making stawboard. This info is from the book about the history of Amanda. The Dickey house is still standing and used now as a warehouse for the paper mill. =============================================================================================================================================================================== NAME ON TOMBSTONE BIRTH DATE DEATH DATE NOTES/INSCRIPTION/SHARES TOMBSTONE =============================================================================================================================================================================== AKERS Charlotte 1931 1934 SISTER ALLEN Louise A 1859 1865 .
