The cut which he received over the left ear is the most serious insomuch as the skull was partially penetrated. It will require several days to determine just what the result will be. The porcelain match safe with which Gardner was assaulted is now in the possession of the police. It is badly broken, has rough, jagged edges and is covered with blood. Major J. Roll, Joseph C. Koons and Gus Kienzel, who were arrested for the assault on Gardner, were released last night on $300 bond each, given by C.R. Hartkoff and Miles D. Lindley.
