Early settlers first held religious services in their homes. In 1831 Alexander Boyd and Daniel McAllister attended a meeting of the Presbytery at Steubenville and requested that a Presbyterian Church be organized at Mechanicstown. The request was granted in January 1832. Mr. Boyd and Mr. McAllister were chosen as elders and Rev. James Smith was the first minister. On August 27, 1835 John Crawford and wife Martha and Cyrus W. Hart and wife Susanna sold an acre of land "bounded on the north by the graded road leading from the mouth of Yellow Creek to Bolivar and located on the east side of Section No. 34 Range 4 township 13 for a meeting house and burying ground forever solely and only" to the trustees of the Corinth church, namely, James Slattery, Samuel McClain and Samuel Hutson. Contract for the first church, a log building, was awarded to William Thompson for the sum of $618. This building served the community until June 11, 1876 when the present two story brick building was dedicated. The building committee was composed of William McClain, William Boyd and E. H. Fletcher. Cost was approximately $8,000. Pastors who follow Rev. Smith were: Rev. John Robinson from 1840 to 1847, Rev. Robert Johnson 1847 to 1849, Rev. William Braugh from 1850 to 1860, Rev. Thomas Scott from 1860 to 1865, Rev. Dalzall from 1866 to 1868, Rev. A. E. Simpson from 1871 to 1878, Rev. William Eaton from 1879 to 1883, Rev. David Hargast from 1883 to 1895, Rev.
