She has been in Girl Scouts for 12 years and has also received her Silver Award in 1996, her God and Life religious award in 1997, all of the Brownie Try-its, helps with Pack 143, and other Girl Scout Troops, and has both silver and gold leadership pins. To earn the Gold Award, a girl must earn the leadership pin, career exploration pin, interest project patches relating to her project, and the Senior Girl Scout Challenge, before she can start to work on the actual project. Bethany's project, consisting of 50+ hours, was to update the cemetery records for the Corinth Presbyterian Church in Mechanicstown. This included putting the gravestones in row order and adding to the original book done 10 years ago by Bernice McCleaster and Jean Smiley. The book is on permanent display at the church in a waterproof wooden box, made by Doyle King, and can be viewed by the public at any time. Another copy of the book was donated to the Carroll County Genealogical Society.
