This beautiful cemetery was fisr dedicated as a place for the burial of the dead in 1855, under the name of Greenwood and the board of Trustees were Lemuel Weaver, John Poffenbarger, John H Young, J.H. Patrick, DAvid Gwynne, W.F. Mosgrove and Henry Craybill. Lemuel Weaver was president, Mosgrove secretary and general agent. Before this cemetery was opened, the land was occupied by C.H. Murphy as a floral garden and was used as a burial place. By a law passed in 1852 by which no graveyard should be inside the corporation, led to the purchase of the present one.
