Lona was born July 1, 1923, in Morgan County, Ky., the daughter of the late John and Virgie (Henson) Oliver. She married Owen G. Adkins on Aug. 13, 1949; and he preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1994. She is survived by five sons, DeWayne Barker of Piqua, Wendell Barker of Jackson, Gene Barker of St. Mary's, Elmer Adkins of Sarasota, Fla., and Jack Adkins of Piqua; three daughters, Virgina Brickley of Troy, Lena Cox of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Darlene Schulz of Troy; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Elva Longacre and Roger Barker; four brothers and four sisters. Lona was a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of the Christiansburg Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday in the Suber-Shively Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Fletcher, with Chaplain Ed Ellis of Hospice of Miami County presiding. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, North Heck Hill Road, St. Paris. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box 502, Troy, OH.
