Mary Virginia Baker, 82, of Urbana, died at 2:33 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 
2013, in Springfield Regional Medical Center, Springfield.
Mary was born April 4, 1931, in Springfield, Oh, the daughter of Roy and Clara 
(Burrow) Canter.
She graduated from Plattsburg High School in 1949, worked at Miller Textiles in 
Springfield and was a member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church. Mary loved 
bird watching, flowers and her Cock-a-Poo dog Duffy. Survivors include her 
husband of 59 years, Richard Baker, daughters, Karen Sue Baker and Beverly Kay 
Parcels, son, Michael (Beverly) Baker, grandchildren Jamie (Jeff) Newcomb, 
Danielle (Tyler) Buck, four great-grandchildren, and sister, Janet Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Donna Wiant and brother, Bob 
Canter.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2013, in 
the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 542 S. Main St., Urbana, where a service will 
be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013, with Pastor Yinger 
officiating. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery.
