She was born April 23, 1 1921 in Bremerhaven, Germany, moving to the United States with her family in 1 1930 at the age of 8. They soon moved to the Kizer farm near St. Paris where her father was farm manager. After graduating from St. Paris High School. Hela returned to Germa Germany with her family in 1940. Soon after securing a job as an interpreter with the German High command in Berl Berlin, it became impossible to leave due to the escalating war effort forcing her her to endure World War II in Berlin. At the conclusion of the war she took a position with U.S. military Government whi which she held until returning to the U.S. in 1949. After working briefly in New New York she returned to the St. Paris area marrying Laurel Barger in 1950. From that time forward she completely dedicated herself to the task of being a fa farm wife and mother with the same efficiency that she practiced in an office en environment. Much of the success of the family farm can be attributed to the dedication, h hard work, love and devotion she gave to her family. In addition to her deep love of family and farm Hela also was an enthusiastic p patron of the arts and loved to travel. She is survived by two sons, Jim (Michelle) Barger of St. Paris and Tim (Colleen) Barger of Bellbrook, four grandchildren, Teryan Barger of Mechanicsburg, Jeremy Barger of St. Paris and Sydney and Courtney Barger of Bellbrook and close friend and caregiver, Gail Gordan.
