BOTKIN, Gary Lee 70 of Urbana, departed this life and went to his eternal 
heavenly home, Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Vancrest Nursing Home surrounded by 
his family. He was born June 30, 1942 in Urbana, Ohio and was a 1961 graduate 
of Urbana High School; where he played football and sang in the choir. He 
served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Gary was the owner and operator of 
Botkin's Flowers. His grandfather, J.G. Botkin, started the flower shop and 
greenhouse business in 1900. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a 
member of the Urbana United Methodist Church. Gary was a longtime member and 
past president of the Urbana Lions Club and served as president of the 
Champaign County Board of MRDD. He was a dedicated little league and pony 
league baseball coach for many years. He shared his love of the game with many 
young men and with his ability to coach, his teams would win championships. 
Gary was an avid sports fan, particularly the Ohio State Buckeyes and Green 
Bay Packers. He enjoyed bicycling on the Simon Kenton Trails and playing 
cards. He especially enjoyed time with family and friends and celebrating 
birthdays and holidays. He will be sadly missed by his family who respected 
him for his love of all people. Survivors include; his wife, Lorraine Botkin 
of Urbana, his son, Wayne (Tricia) Botkin of Springboro, his daughter, 
Kimberlee (Bill) Edwards of Urbana, his granddaughter, Audrey Edwards; his 
brother, Thomas (Ann) Botkin of Ocala, FL. and numerous nieces, nephews and a 
host of friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore R. and 
Mildred J. (Crego) Botkin; a granddaughter, Laura Edwards; a sister, Joyce 
(Fred) Curtis and his beloved dog, Franzi. A gathering of family and friends 
will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in the VERNON 
FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Celebration of Gary's Life services will be held at 
11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 in the Urbana United Methodist Church 
with Rev. Jim Lillibridge and Mitch Pollic, Chaplin of Heartland Hospice, 
officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, Urbana.
