Carl delivered trucks throughout the United States with Howard Sober Trucking Company. now Dallas-Mavis Trucking, retiring in December of 1989. During this time he was awarded several safe driving awards. He served in the Special Troops Command in the United States Army where he received the National Defense Medal. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the Harmony Lodge 8 Freed and Accepted Masons. Carl was a loyal Christian, loved his Church, liked fishing and collecting lures and other antiques. He loved his family and grandchildren, spending most of his time with family and church. The physicians who cared for him during the last several years benefited from his upbeat positive attitude and remarks. He had good rapport with everyone, obeying God's command "As much as lieth within you, live at peace with all men." He numbered his days in peace. He left behind his wife of 41 years, Sally (Chance) Brake whom he married April 24, 1965; children; George(Kathy) of Van Wert, Ohio, Sheila Breslin of Urbana, Carla (Mike) Swank of Urbana, Mark (Tammy) Brake of St. Paris, Sarah Spaulding of Knoxville, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; Matthew, Sarah, Leila, Miranda, Andrea, Katelyn, Rachel, James, Mark, Levi, Anne and Jonathan. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. Monday July 10, 2006 in the WALTER-SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 11, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. in the Grace Baptist Church, 960 Children's Home Road, Urbana, with Rev. George West Riddell IV and Rev. Dr. Ray Kaffenbarger officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Urbana.
