Butler, 82, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Heartland of Urbana, in Ohio. He was born June 25, 1918, in Urbana, Ohio, the son of Fuller and Bernice (Ambrose) Butler. He was employed at Champaign Residential Services in Urbana, Ohio, and started the Bill Butler Champaign Open Golf Tournament in Urbana, Ohio, which will enjoy its 19th year this August. He graduated from Urabna High in 1936 and attended Wittenberg University. He was an avid golfer, outdoorsman and particularly enjoyed hunting mushrooms. He was a member of Masonic Harmony Lodge, Moose Lodge, past president of the Urbana Country Club, Pearce Kerns Post 120 American Legion and served in the Army in World War II. He was associated with his father for many years, operating Butler's Rexall Drug Store and Appliances, in Urbana, Ohio. He currently held a position on the Board of Directors of Lawnview Industries and was a former member of the Lions Club. He was also instrumental in the Big Band Dinner held in Urbana on March 31 at the Outback Station. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jeanne (Brant), who died in 1973. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, April 6, 2001, from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home, in Urbana. A funeral ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at 2 p.m. at LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, with the Rev. William Turner officiating. Burial will be in Oak Dale Cemetery.
