CARPENTER, Marie age 86 of Springfield, known to many as "The Fudge Lady", 
because of her homemade fudge she loved to make and give to others, passed 
away peacefully after a short battle with cancer with her daughters by her 
side on March 12,2011 in the home of her daughter in Springfield. She said she 
wanted to walk the "Streets of Gold" with her late husband Frank. She was born 
January 14,1925 in Lost Creek, West Virginia the daughter of the late Lester & 
Nora Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Carpenter in 
2005, brother Tom Wheeler ,sisters Katie Hill and Bonnie Hockman and grandson 
Bige Wooten. Survivors include her daughters, Mary (John) Rooks, & Angel 
(Jeff) Wooten. Grandchildren, Tammie Rooks, Jeana (Terry) Zeitz, Shannon 
(Tony) Hackathorne, Jeffrey (Jessi Ann) Wooten, & Jessica (Brian) Pasko. Great-
Grandchildren, Jacki Isaacs, John, Nicki & Nattie Zeitz, Madison & Emily 
Hackathorne, Jocelyn, Noah & Alyssa Wooten, & Hayden Pasko. Great-Great- 
Grandson, Tanner Isaacs. Sister, Shirley Akers, brothers, George (Diana) 
Wheeler, Jack (Late Yvonne) Wheeler, Jim (Marlea) Wheeler, brothers-in-law, 
Carl (late Katie) Hill, & Sam (late Bonnie) Hockman. Numerous nieces, great 
nieces, nephews, great nephews. A gathering of family & friends will be held 
from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday in the Jackson Lytle & Lewis Funeral Home, 2425 N. 
Limestone St., Springfield, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., 
Thursday with Rev. Rick Clos officiating. Burial will follow in Terre Haute 
Cemetery.
