He was born in Morehead, Ky., on Jan. 9, 1920, a son of the late Leslie and Rebecca Curtis Cooper. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, the former Mary Buckner, and two brothers, Olven Cooper and Ora Samuel Cooper. Survivors include his wife Marguerite Ferguson Cooper of Hendersonville; three sons, Ronnie Cooper of Dayton, Kenneth Cooper of Florence, Ky., and Eddie Cooper of Port Jefferson; two daughters, Janet Wiessinger of Bellefontaine and Shirley Ball of Batavia; a stepdaughter, Janice Montgomery of Hendersonville; twin sisters, Clara (Georgie) Caudill and Cordlia (Jessie) Kelsey, both of Morehead; 17 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served on the island of New Caledonia. He retired from National Extrusion after 30 years. The Rev. Mike Engle conducted a funeral Sept. 13 in Jackson Funeral Service Chapel in the Pines, Hendersonville. Burial followed in Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Henderson County Honor Guard.
