He was born January 30, 1934, in Otway, Ohio, the son of the late Raymond Cox and the late Irene Cox Weatherhead. Buddy served in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956 and worked many years for Penn Central/Conrail Railroad, Grimes Mfg., and Rosewood Machines and Tool. Buddy was a self-taught musician, singer and songwriter. He could play any stringed instrument and taught many others his craft. He wrote many country music and gospel songs, made a record and performed on both radio and stage throughout his life. Along with his love of music, he enjoyed walking in the woods, watching birds and wildlife and sharing his unique way of looking at the world. He was a member of Life Net Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Carol; daughter Cindy (Sam) Lockwood of Urbana; sons Timothy Coleman, of Urbana, Jerry (Cindy) Coleman of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Steven (Anna) Coleman of Oxford, OH; sisters Clara (Arlie) Monroe, of Cut-n-Shoot, TX, Fay (Charlie) Conley of Urbana, OH; step-father Todd (Sally) Weatherhead of Urbana, OH; grandchildren, Addy Coleman Shedd, Jeremy Coleman, Cassidy Coleman, Jake Lockwood, Meghan Coleman, Katie Coleman and Ben Coleman; several nieces, nephews; and a sister-in-law, Pam Moody. Buddy was also known as “Grandpa” to many children over the years including Erika, Zack, Abigail, Solly and many grown step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Raymond Bruce Cox; brothers-in-law, Jim, Vernon and Tommy Moody; and sister-in-law, Marge Cox. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Community Mercy Hospice for the comfort and guidance provided during this chapter of his life. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, March 29, 2013, in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, with Pastor Chris Livingston officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
