George Washington Deaton was born April 3, 1815, and died March 24, 1900, aged 
84 years, 11 months and 22 days. He was born in Botetourt Co, VA, near the 
town of Salem, a son of GW and Susannah Ream Deaton, from whom were born 
William, Samuel, George W, Andrew Jackson, Nathan, Mary, Martha, Susan, and 
Levi. His father was a Captain in the War of 1812. In the summer of 1828, Mrs 
Susannah Deaton, a widow with her nine children, moved to Ohio settling in 
Donnelsville, Clark Co. The subject of this sketch was married to Miss Hannah 
leffel. This union was blessed with Mary Ann, now deceased wife of Rev 
Jonathan Verity; Susan Tullis; Levi deceased; Ezra; Jane Morrett; John W; 
Milton T; Maggie Nicholas and Willis G. He was bereft of his wife six years 
ago. The funeral services were conducted at Newson Chapel by Rev RS McColm. 
The pallbearers were his nephews, Hamilton and Samuel Stephens, Simeon Deaton, 
William Deaton, Dr Van G Deaton and Dr US Deaton
