The Urbana Daily Citizen-abstract
Ruby Elizabeth (Roberts) Dixon, 100, of Urbana, passed away peacefully, on 
Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, in Vancrest of Urbana.
Ruby was born June 29, 1912, in Louisa, Ky., the daughter of William J. and 
Ella Rhea (Holly) Roberts.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George H. Dixon; son-in-
laws Richard Shipley and Thomas Wilkins; brothers, Herbert, Walter, Paul and 
Burns; sisters, Virginia, Lucille, and Lenore; and nieces and nephews.
Ruby had a happy and fulfilling life due to her great love for family and 
friends. She was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. In her younger years 
she was an outstanding seamstress and a wonderful cook. The family birthdays 
and holidays were truly special due to her talents and love. She loved to read 
and her fantastic memorization continued into her later life. She was a 
lifetime member of her United Methodist church in Kentucky. As a child she 
gave up her own pleasures to sing at funerals. She was also a member of Urbana 
Chapter #530 order of the Eastern Star. In 1966 she served as Deputy Grand 
Matron of O.E.S. District 18 which allowed her to make many loving friendships 
in her travels around the state. The death of Ruby’s mother at the tender age 
of seven brought many family responsibilities, no doubt contributing to her 
loving and caring ways. As a young mother she became the Postmistress in 
Charley, Ky. After moving to Ohio she became a bus driver and assistant 
teacher for Lawnview School. She loved the children and was very touched by 
their love for her.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 
20, 2012, in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana, where Eastern Star services will 
be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, in the 
funeral home with Pastor Jim Lillibridge officiating.
Burial will follow in Urbana Oakdale Cemetery.
