She was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 14, 1917 the daughter of Glen S. and Jeanette (Snyder) Pierce. An active and involved supporter of her husband's tennis and dental activities, Jean Dredge was an accomplished woman in her own right. Mrs. Dredge became the first national field secretary for Delta Gamma sorority in the early 1940s, helping set up chapters around the United States, and after settling in Springfield, continued to advise the Wittenberg University chapter until about 1970. She was the first woman appointed to the Ohio State University Alumni Development Board in the 1950s, and was active in the American Association of University Women. Over several decades, she served as a member and chairperson for various committees in the Ohio Valley, Western (Midwest), and United States Tennis Associations. She was past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Mad River Valley Dental Association. She taught a popular women's tennis class at the YMCA for several years in the 1970s. During World War II, Jean Dredge was a volunteer driver for the Columbus (Ohio) Red Cross. She belonged to the First United Church of Christ. Survivors include three children and spouses, Marilyn and Warren Clark, Columbus, Ohio, Greg and Debbie Dredge, Springfield, Ohio and Ron and Debby Dredge, Lima, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jenny, Brian and Sarah Dredge and Kelly and Scott Dredge. Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Howard Z. Dredge in 2001 and a brother, Glen S. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 4-7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Dean Elam officiating.
