She was born on March 15, 1925 in Urbana the daughter of the late James and Valeria (Studer) Ahern. She married Raymond Smith on June 7, 1945 and he preceded her in death on November 29, 1980. On June 18, 1984 Mary Lou married Clyde Evilsizor and he also preceded her in death on January 2, 2002. Mary Lou and Raymond raised a son and two daughters who survive along with their spouses: Rodney E. and Pat Smith of Springfield, Cynthia and Bruce Miller of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Patricia and Richard Kniss of Springfield, Illinois. Mary Lou is also survived by five grandsons: Matthew (Karen) Miller of Atlanta, Ga, Gregory (Ashlene) Miller of Albuquerque, NM, Steven Smith of Columbia, Missouri, and Zachary and Nicholas Kniss of Springfield, IL; and three great grandchildren: Kiera and Kyle Miller of Albuquerque, NM and Charlotte Miller of Atlanta, Ga. Three sisters also survive Mary Lou: Rosemary (Rollie) Schindler of Punta Gorda, Fla., Lucille Keating of Dayton, and Margie Cleary of Cincinnati. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Libby Ahern of Kettering, a close friend and cousin, Maxine Stevens of Christiansburg, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her two husbands, Mary Lou was preceded in death by three brothers, John, William and Thomas Ahern and two sisters, Loretta Cashin and Sister Mary Valeria. Mary Lou loved her family and friends. She always had a joke or a good story to tell. She enjoyed making her friends and family laugh and their happiness was important to her. Mary Lou was a 1943 graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School in Urbana. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of St. Paris and she retired from Grimes Manufacturing in Urbana. A funeral mass with be celebrated on January 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Konerman presiding.
