William Fleming, 81, of Springfield and formerly of Urbana and Sarasota, 
Florida died Saturday, April 3, 2004 in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield 
after a lengthy illness. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army 
with the 3rd Army Tank Destroyers and was a Prisoner of War in Germany 
captured at the Battle of the Bulge. He lived in Urbana before moving to 
Springfield in 1960. He retired in 1980 as a manager of Madder Electric 
working in Springfield and Sarasota, Florida. He leaves his wife of 58 years, 
Alphretta "Freddie" Fleming; daughters, Carolyn Dewell and Jonica Hamilton; 
four grandchildren, Nicohle Hamilton , Brooke Hamilton, Krista Dewell , and 
William "Bill: Fyffe, two great grandchildren, Brittany Fyffe and Tyler D. 
Evans. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 5, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. 
in the Walter Schoedinger Funeral Home, 642 South Main Street, Urbana, where a 
funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. Burial will 
follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana
