David A. Hanes, age 47, of St. Paris, passed away on Monday, Nov. 27, 2006 as 
a result of an automobile accident. He was born on May 29, 1959 in 
Springfield, Ohio, the son of Richard W. and Rae Carol (Haas) Hanes. David is 
survived by his father, Richard, of Springfield. He was a loving father to his 
children: sons, Shawn A. (Nicole Meyers) Hanes, and Shane R. Hanes, and 
daughter, Shelby Hanes, all of St. Paris. He loved his grandson, Cayden Allen 
Hanes, also of St. Paris. He is also survived by three sisters: Sherri (Rick) 
Dooley of Urbana, Susan (Duane) Caudill of St. Paris, and Mary Jo (Rod) Hines 
of Urbana, and several nieces and nephews. David is also survived by his 
special friend, Phyllis Hanes. David was preceded in death by his mother, Rae 
Carol Hanes Kite, his step-father Charles Kite, and his step-mother, Kletyce 
Hanes. David was a 1978 graduate of Graham High School. He attended Hobart 
Welding School and he worked as a paint contractor. David was a member of the 
Urbana Moose Lodge and the Plains Drifters Motorcycle Club. He had a kind 
heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Funeral services will be 
held on Friday, Dec. 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Saint 
Paris with Rev. Dr. James VanZile presiding. Burial will be in Myrtle Tree 
Cemetery, St. Paris. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Dec. 1, 
2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the ATKINS SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield 
St., St. Paris, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer 
Association of Champaign Counties, P.O. Box 38125, Urbana, Ohio 43078, or to 
the Alzheimer's Association of Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties, 2634 
Lexington Ave., Springfield, Ohio 45505.
