The Urbana Daily Citizen-abstract
Virginia Lou (Beck) Hazard, 82, of Urbana, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on 
Sunday, January 6, 2013, in Mercy Memorial Hospital. Born in 1930 in Canton, 
Ohio, she was a woman of faith. Considered to be the ultimate caregiver and a 
faithful friend to many, she maintained a positive disposition throughout her 
life. She will be dearly missed by many.
Virginia was first and foremost a woman of strong Christian faith who used her 
natural caregiver talents in the field of nursing. Graduating from the Aultman 
Hospital School of Nursing in Canton, Ohio, she became one of their nursing 
instructors. Raising her family in Dover, Ohio, she served as a nurse and 
director of three United Way Day Care Centers there. After moving to Marion, 
Ohio, she became one of the first nurses trained for Hospice at Marion General 
Hospital. In Urbana, Ohio, Virginia was a member of the First United Methodist 
Church, the Dorothy Love Retirement Community Board, the Better Garden Club 
and the Arts Council. She was an avid OSU Buckeye fan through wins and losses.
She devoted her love and energy to her family, friends and charitable causes 
and was a thoughtful, caring lady with a keen wit and sense of humor. A 
devoted and loving fighter pilot’s wife, By his side, she supported his 
academic roles as Dean and Director of Kent State University Tuscarawas 
Campus, Dean of OSU Marion, and President of Urbana University. A loving 
mother and grandmother, She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles 
Bowen and Edna Lucille (Loe) Beck, and her brothers John, James and Joseph.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, 
January 11, 2013, in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. 
Funeral services will be held at the Urbana United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. 
on Saturday, January 12, with Rev. Jim Lillibridge officiating. Burial will 
follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
