James Edward Herndon, 80, of Urbana, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010, in 
Kettering Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 20, 1930, in Springfield, the son of Edward Moran Jr. and 
Mary Rosella (Reid) Herndon.
James was a 1948 graduate of Urbana High School and served his country in 
Korea as a sergeant in the United States Army 623 Field Artillery Battalion. 
He retired from Allied Signal Grimes after 32 years. He then worked for Mad 
River Township from 1992-2000. James attended the Urbana United Methodist 
Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carolee A. (Kite) Herndon; his 
children, Ted (Karen) Herndon of Cable, Michael M. (Michelle) Herndon of Piqua 
and Sally J. Herndon of Northern California; his grandchildren, Mindy (Todd) 
Carlson of Hilliard, Jody (Matthew) Bost of St. Paris, Robert (Kaci) Herndon 
of Springfield, Stacey (Chris) Domer of South Vienna, Samuel, Elizabeth and 
Silas Herndon of Piqua; and his great-grandchildren; Riley Carlson, Ethan, 
Emma and Braden Bost and Lily Domer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Anita Woods and 
Martha Jean Brown.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the 
Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with 
Pastor Jeff Harper and Pastor Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow in 
Terre Haute Cemetery
