David was born December 10, 1933 in Urbana, the son of Eathel and Sherlene (Black) Hess. He enjoyed playing football for Urbana High School and graduated from Cable in 1952. Dave was a man of many talents. He was a dairy farmer for over 20 years, coached boys little league and girls softball in the West Liberty area for 7 years, owned and operated Coral Lanes in St Paris from 1976-1980, ran Kiser Lake Concessions from 1980-1988 and built his own bait shop, Dave's Bait Shop & Tackle on Route 235 in Carysville and operated the business until he retired. He then became an Adams Township Trustee, attended auctions and sales, was a collector of good "junk". Dave was an avid fisherman and bowler. He loved every job he ever had, but he was most proud of his wife, nine children and 15 grandchildren. He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Barbara (Williams) Hess and their sons, David (Debra) Hess II of Degraff, Dan O. (Sally) Hess of Toledo, Dennis Hess of Florida, Wes (Susan) Williams of Stafford, Virginia; daughters, Dianne Matthews of West Liberty, Deena (Larry) Pearson, of Urbana, Karla (Don) Stevens of Bellefontaine, Kelly (David) McIntosh, of Urbana and Desiree (Brad) Smith of Dayton; grandchildren Sherri, Darin and Doug Hess, Zack and Gabe Hess, Amanda and Brittanie Hess, Chad and Chase Matthews, Abigail Pearson, Courtney and Shannon Williams, Erin Stevens, and Meredith and Miranda McIntosh; sister, Shirley Fielder, of Christiansburg; brother, Dale (Joyce) Heww of St. Paris; several aunts and uncles; many nieces and nephews and special niece, Beth Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Connie Joan Hess and brother, Donald G. Hess. The famly will receive friends on Monday, July 31, 2006 from 5-9 p.m. in the WALTER- SCHOEDINGER FUNERAL HOME, Urbana with funeral services on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Beverly Avers officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Cemetery, Carysville.
