Hobbs, age 66, of Springfield, beloved husband, father, and friend, took his place with God on Thursday, October 4, 2007 after battling a long illness. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the family that adored him. He was a very special, much loved man who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Carl was born on October 7, 1940 in Eagan, TN, the son of the late Hobert and Agnes (Gibson) Hobbs. He married Barbara J. Elliott on February 6, 1965 and she survives in Springfield. He is survived by a son, David M. (Malisia) Hobbs, daughter Carla J. Hobbs, granddaughter, Lindsey Hobbs and grandson Seth Kohut-Hobbs all of Springfield. Additional survivors include two brothers: Jerry (Linda) Hobbs of St. Paris, Clyde (Patty) Hobbs of Huber Heights; five sisters: Myrna (Charlie) Owen of Tampa, Fla., Phyllis (Martin) deJong of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kathe (Ron) Marcum of Somerville, Juanita (Bill) McLaughlin of Huber Heights, and Caroline (Charlie) Karnehm of Piqua. Extended family members include: brothers-in-law: John (Vickie) Elliot, Mike (Barb) Elliott, Bruce (Tammy) Elliott, Donny (Penny) Elliott; sister-in- law: Rosie Miller, cousins Ruth ("Boots") Morrison, Willie Gene (Mary) Ayers. Many nieces and nephews also survive: Brooke Elliott, Amy Dibling, Bill, Bob, and Kevin McLaughlin, Michelle Sagar, Missy Garwood, Angela Stover, Donny Hobbs, Kris Krecota, Wesley Hobbs, Casey and Daniel Hobbs, Kara Jones, Nicholas Flannery, Kimberly and Jace Elliott, Jennifer Fowler, Alan Coates, Carrie Dodd, Dustin Elliott, Scott and Nick Karnehm and many great nieces and nephews. Special family friends include: honorary granddaughter, Angelique Thomas, Scott and Sandy Johnson, Roger Wells, Ron Woerner, Calvin and Donna Hayes, the Kellis family, Jeremy and Jessie Boomershine, the McDermott family, Michelle Enlow, Earnie Miller, Mike Prince, the Gordon family, Cindy Bloodworth, Justin and Joyce Richwine, and the Roark, McDaniel and Norman families. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Joyce Elliott. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Rev. Clayton Brooks, Drs. Ammirati, Khanna, Singh and Kincanna, and all of the staff at the Springfield Cancer Center, Ohio State University Hospitals, and the Oncology floor at Community Hospital. A very special thank you is extended to the wonderful personnel of Mercy Hospice: Sue "Susie", Mindy, Jessie, Missy, Judith, Maureen, Linda, Myra, Jenny, Jim and the rest of the staff. God bless you all. Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired electrician and also a machinist. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Atkins-Shively Funeral Home, 216 S. Springfield Street, Saint Paris, Ohio. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, N. St. Rt. 235, Conover. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, one hour prior to the funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Mercy Hospice, 1342 N. Limestone St., Springfield, Ohio 45504. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home. HOBBS, Carl E.
