She was born on August 13, 1922 in Naphlion, Greece the daughter of the late James G. and Katina (Lemonie) Kotsifas and since age five has been a resident of Urbana. Her parents were the original owners of the Paradise Restaurant. Mary loved to spoil her family and friends with her cooking and baking skills. You would also find her knitting and doing crafts with her hands that became cherished keepsakes to her family and friends. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Urbana High School. She was the former owner of Katina's Bridal and Gift Shop, worked as a deputy registrar for the State of Ohio in Champaign County, and was an active member of the Champaign County Democratic Party. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Springfield where she was a member of the choir, the Ladies Guild Philoptochos Society and was a past-president of the Ithaca Chapter 22 of the Daughters of Penelope. Mary was a past-president of TWIGG and the Hospital Guild at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Logan-Champaign White Shrine. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, William and Donna Kotsifas of Grand Rapids, Michigan; nephew, Charles (Heide) Kotsifas; great nephew and niece, Jared and Rachel; nieces Katina King and Melissa (Ron) Snider also of Grand Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Eva Kotsifas of Urbana. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Tom, infant George T. and George J. Kotsifas. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, URBANA with Trisagion service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Ignatios Achlioptas officiating.
