She was born May 13, 1925 in Columbus, the daughter of Curtis and Stella (Bolin) Moody. As a young girl she moved to North Lewisburg following the death of her father. After school and in the summer time Mertie would work at the drug store in North Lewisburg. She graduated 1943 from North Lewisburg High School. In March of 1943 she met Marvin E. Lantz and on December 27, 1943 they were married. They spent the beginning of their lives farming and then started the implement business. She was the secretary, treasurer and co-owner of Lantz Sales Co. for 22 years. She started the thrift and gift shop in Urbana and oversaw the volunteers for many years; the proceeds went to Lawnview Industries. Mertie was a former member of the Kingscreek United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir; she is current member of the Westville United Methodist Church. For 12 years Mertie served as a lay person for the Methodist conference. She loved helping her church. She was also a life member of the Soroptimist. Mertie enjoyed sending cards to family and friends, most of all she made sure her grandchildren would receive ten dollars on their birthday in their card. She loved everyone and used her forgiveness to make everything right. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Marvin E. Lantz of Urbana; her daughters, Sharon (Sonny) Shirk of St. Paris, Dawn Schlickman of Christiansburg; her sons, Gary (Patti) Lantz of Urbana, Ronald (Debbie) Lantz of Mechanicsburg; her grandchildren, Alisa (Scott) Dees, Lucia (Carey) Culley, Jacki (Larry) Dickinson, Ryan (Kristin) Lantz, Nathan (Brittany) Lantz, Greg Shirk, Heidi (Marc) Puil, Brian (Shandy) Shirk, Shelley (David) Eades, Heather (Andrew) Bonser, Jason Egan, Jessica Egan and Jeremy Egan; her great grandchildren, Adam, Lindsay, Kalen, Korinne, Jensen, Maura, Chandler, Tyson, Carmine, Camri, Grady, Zachary, Evan, Camille, Lantz, Logan, Morgan, Emily, Jordan and Alissa; 2 great great grandchildren, Kali & Briana. She is preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Charles Eastman, brothers, Curtis & Robert.
