She was born in Tacoma, Wash, on March 7, 1958, the daughter of James Robert and Linda (Lewis) Pence. Mrs. Mahan was a 1976 graduate of Graham High School, attended the Saint Paris First Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Graham Alumni Band Organization. She was formerly employed as a licensed insurance agent with Western Souther Life Insurance Company in the Bellefontaine, Sidney, and Saint Paris area. Susie was formerly a scout leader for both boy and girl scout groups, was a former 4- H leader int he "Crafts R Us" club, was active in several area church youth groups, and taught a young adults Sunday school class. Some of the things she enjoyed were working with crafts, doing needlework, and raising her family. Survivors include her husband, Mark B. Mahan who she married on Feb. 26, 1977; her father, James (Dixie Fannin Beair) Pence of Saint Paris; one daughter, Jennifer Marie Mahan at home; one son, Dustin Mahan of Saint Paris; one brother, James (Ketha) Pence of Saint Paris; one sister, Barbara Pence of San Antonio, Texas; a nephew, James Robert Pence III (Trey) of Saint Paris; three uncles; two step-brothers; and two step-sisters. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda (Lewis) Pence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the St. Paris First Baptist Church, 138 W. Plum St., with the Rev. Dr. James Van Zile officiating. Burial will take place in Rosedale Cemetery, Conover.
